The Assignment

The Senior Buyer/Carrier Development Manager will be part of the Connectrans leadership team and, as with the rest of our team, will be expected to deliver an exceptional customer experience to our customers. This individual will be responsible for identifying and securing the right carrier partners to meet our strategic objectives, negotiating short and long-term contracts, and developing productive and mutually beneficial long-term relationships. The manager will also collect and analyze data related to daily shipment activity, identify opportunities for process improvement, and follow through on operational or system improvement initiatives. Collaboration with business leaders and partners is a key element of success in this position. The ideal candidate will have served in corporate transportation roles with significant budgetary responsibilities, has Transportation Management System (TMS) familiarity and commodity import/export experience.

Duties & Responsibilities Accountable for a significant annual Transportation budget, prepare monthly costs analysis. Oversee all aspects of the freight invoice review and approval process. Develop and implement cost savings initiatives

Build strong carrier relationships, develop communications and coordination of services

Build carrier service performance KPIs metrics, provide carrier performance feedback and ensure KPIs are met or exceeded, including customer specific score cards (where applicable)

Assist in the identification and implementation of continuous improvement and customer satisfaction opportunities

Maintain relevance with the latest transportation trends, technology, systems, freight practices and procedures and provide recommendations to improve based on changing market or network conditions

Initiate annual and spot market requests for capacity and pricing from carriers to benchmark competitiveness and make decisions on which carriers to select and negotiate freight rates Work collaboratively to foster strong work relationships within the organization. Assist other departments with coordination of shipments

Required Skills & Qualifications

To be considered for this position, the ideal candidate should display the following attributes;

· Proven track record in identifying, selecting and managing carriers in the US and Canada

· Proven effectiveness in negotiating both spot and contract transportation pricing

· Proven track record managing transportation and freight costs to plan/budget while ensuring customer on-time performance is achieved

· Working knowledge of TMS systems (TruckMate). TMS implementation experience a plus

· Committed to high levels of customer service, especially to timely follow up and issue resolutions

· Excellent communication, project management, and relationship building skills

· 5+ years transportation purchasing or related experience

· Critical thinker and problem solver with the ability to perform under pressure

· Strong analytical, organizational and presentation skills

· Occasional US and Canada business travel may be required
